Palermo is loud. Every day we step out of our building and there is a siren or alarm or someone yelling to someone else or construction. It’s a very busy city. Far from the idyllic rolling hills of Tuscany. A very different (but still very likable) Italy.
Three things happened this morning as part of our travel to Naples and the Palermo airport that made it all more entertaining.
First - our cab was late - but while we waited this kitty tried to get our attention.
While I half-knelt to snap a photo he climbed up in my lap!
Once the cab arrived we had a thrilling ride to the airport. Driving in Sicily is like an amusement park ride!
Then when we got there Mike had the tiniest espresso I’ve ever seen!
Then when we got on the plane they were misting it because it was already so hot!
Otherwise uneventful actual flight to Naples.
Our hotel room is huge (I could do an interpretive dance in the space) and has an interesting ceiling.
After we arrived we had a lovely lunch at Taverna Santa Chiara (I had lemon pasta) and then we thought we’d try the Archeological Museum for some AC - wrong. We snuck in some moments when we could.
They did, however, have a lot of artifacts found in Pompeii and other cool stuff.
Another sun-dial calendar.
So the sun comes in through a pinprick near the ceiling (at noon or 1:00 depending on daylight saving)
And lights up the astrological symbol on the floor. And that tells you what month/day it is.
Some beautiful mosaics - Some that are so detailed they look like paintings.
Here’s Mike trying to cool off with some direct AC. I think other people had the same idea because in some parts of the museum where it wasn’t cool - Everyone looked like they were shuffling around like zombies.
Here’s what a room in a Pompeiians house might’ve looked like - We’ll see for ourselves on Wednesday!
The museum also had some beautiful statues. Mike knew who all the Roman rulers were.
This one had several different sculptures/artists work on it - Including Michaelangelo.
After rest and cleanup we trekked to a nearby Enoteca and had some Napoli wines.
And pizza (best so far!)
And we stopped by a cute little bar afterwards
