Selinunte to Agrigento - Day 2

Today after breakfast by the ocean we hit the road to Selinunte. A home to Greek ruins that we classified as an “Amuse Buche” for our day in the Valley of Temples tomorrow.

Driving in Sicilian cities is crazy - But Mike learned quickly and now ignores road signs and turn signals with the best of them.
Selinunte is about an hour from Trapani and is an old Greek city that now is mostly in ruins. We started with an outlying area of 3 temples…

This one looks impressive but it's a bit deceptive as it’s a reconstruction - A “no no” in the archeological world.
Archeologists prefer their temples this way…

All the pieces strewn about.
This particular one is impressive - When it stood in 5th century BC it was longer than a football field. And this one column has been standing for over 2500 years!!

Then we shuttled over to the main area of the ancient city with the Acropolis

And wandered around more areas of former houses and temples to try to envision what they looked like before.

After we headed to our hotel - Just outside Agrigento and looking over the Valley of the Temples.
We took advantage of the pool

(There’s the Temple of Juno behind us.)

And took some thoughtful photos while having cocktails…

More tomorrow!
